Gianni Infantino’s future as FIFA president has been called into question following the controversy surrounding the project to create a new commercial entity linked to the World Cup and other FIFA competitions.
The project, presented as a way to increase revenue for football development, was opposed by UEFA, CONCACAF and other confederations due to concerns over transparency and governance.
Following the backlash, FIFA decided to withdraw the initiative. Meanwhile, possible names that could run for the position of president in the upcoming elections have begun to be mentioned.
Among them are Arsene Wenger, Nasser Al-Khelaifi, Salman bin Ibrahim Al Khalifa, Victor Montagliani and Aleksander Ceferin. According to estimates, Ceferin is considered the candidate with the strongest profile for this job.
However, Gianni Infantino continues to remain FIFA president and has not yet announced any decision to step down.
